Fractional CPTO · Business, AI & Connected Products

CPTO (Chief Product & Technology Officer): the executive who brings product and technology together. Product means deciding with the CEO what to build, for whom and why; technology means building it, hosting it, securing it and making it evolve, while steering teams and suppliers. Fractional: serving several companies, without a full-time hire.

“Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.”

Arthur C. Clarke

My work starts where the magic has to work for real: at a client’s, in the field, in the hands of a patient or a reader.

I have been writing code since 1983, making data speak since 1998 and applying AI since 2016. Along the way I founded Touaregs in 2000 and led more than 200 initiatives in about 25 countries; I co-founded Chaï to give printed books a voice, then Sounduct, a connected hearing medical device, from 18 prototypes to the FDA pathway.

The lesson of this journey fits in one word, simplexity: the system absorbs the complexity so that the user does not have to carry it. And when a real system has to work, almost right is worth zero.

Chastenay Corp, founded in 2025, puts this craft at the service of business leaders: fractional product and technology leadership, data and AI, connected products.

Services

Six ways to work together.

  • Fractional product and technology leadership (CPTO)

When the company needs product and technology leadership without a full-time hire.

What you get: a product and technology roadmap, clear make-or-buy, adapt or partner decisions, and teams and suppliers that are steered.

  • Data & AI assessment

To find where your data and AI create value, and where to start.

What you get: a maturity assessment, use cases ranked by value and feasibility, a roadmap and an action plan.

  • Technical due diligence

Before an investment, a launch or a reorganisation.

What you get: a reading of the technology, the product, the organisation and the team, at times the accounts and the ownership, delivered with recommendations.

  • Prototype and connected product

To turn a connected-device idea into a product that works.

What you get: a prototype tested in real conditions, chosen components and partners, and a path to industrialisation.

  • Digital accessibility

For websites and apps everyone can use, with the French RGAA standard as the reference.

What you get: blocking issues identified, accessibility built in from design and checked at acceptance.

  • Training and masterclasses

    For executives, teams and students.

What you get: masterclasses, workshops and courses on AI, data and AI ethics, and foresight.

Expertise

  • Generative AI and agents
  • Data and data governance
  • GDPR and the AI Act
  • Data and AI ethics
  • Architecture and cloud
  • Security by design
  • Connected devices
  • Accessibility (RGAA)
  • Make or buy
  • ISO 13485 and IEC 62304

Approach

  • A holistic approach

I design end-to-end systems around an expressed or anticipated need: business, market, user, physical product, experience, data, software, infrastructure, operations, partners, economics, regulation and organisation. A perfect brick is worth nothing if the roof or the foundations are weak.

  • By design

Security, privacy, efficiency, resilience and sustainability are decided at design time, not added afterwards. Design is intent, not decoration.

  • Every case has its own grid

You cannot read a company through a single grid; expertise means understanding, then reporting back within a context and its stakes.

  • We steer; the language is just the outfit

Programming languages follow fashions, and coding assistants are changing the game: what matters is steering.

  • AI, under human review

AI speeds up the design loop, but no model is the authority. When a real system has to work, “almost right = 0”: people keep the framing, the validation and the final responsibility.

  • Standards: the essentials and their spirit

A standard is handled like the law. For example, SOUP under IEC 62304: every third-party component is identified, versioned, assessed and monitored.
